OVERVIEW

We are pleased to announce that the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum is hosting the ‘Exhibitions of Embassies: Introspective on Cultural Exchanges with the World.’ This exhibition series has been made possible through the dedicated collaboration of foreign embassies in Japan, who are deeply committed to disseminating their country’s culture as a window for cultural exchange.

This groundbreaking exhibition series marks the first attempt to illuminate lesser-known aspects of culture by showcasing treasured artworks and cultural assets loaned from embassies and ambassadorial residences of various countries. In addition to the exhibitions, we organize seminars and workshops led by embassy personnel. Moreover, we collaborate with our museum shop and restaurant, offering visitors immersive experiences that bring them closer to the vibrant cultures of these nations.

The Tokyo Fuji Art Museum continues to work hand-in-hand with countries worldwide to promote cultural exchange for peacebuilding in all its forms, providing opportunities for visitors to enjoy and appreciate outstanding cultures worldwide under its motto, ‘Fostering Global Citizens is Our Mandate.’

Indonesia: Harmony in Diversity - A Pathway to Cultural Exchange with the World
We are delighted to present the Indonesian Embassy Exhibition at the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum: “Indonesia: Harmony in Diversity, The Pathway to Cultural Exchange with the World.” I am confident that each of you will play a significant role in building a network of cultures to enrich our global values. Japan and Indonesia are comprehensive strategic partners, sharing universal values, including culture and Eastern traditions in the Asia-Pacific region.
We hope this exhibition will inspire us to strengthen our identity amidst the dynamics of global development. The concept of harmony in diversity has become increasingly vital for building interconnected communities worldwide. The spirit of harmony refers to the understanding, acceptance, and appreciation of diverse cultures within various societies. It embodies the idea that people from different cultural backgrounds can coexist peacefully and productively, valuing cultural exchange with the world. Hence, the Indonesian Embassy Exhibition at the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum is an effort to promote the concept of harmony in diversity in Indonesia as a pathway to cultural exchange with the world.
We also acknowledge that current global concerns, including environmental degradation, climate change, and social rights issues, are significantly influenced by values, knowledge, beliefs, and ways of life. As culture mediates all responses to societal challenges, it cannot be separated from other sectors. On the other hand, the diversity of cultural resources and the free exercise of cultural rights and freedoms offer avenues to better respond to these issues, both globally and locally, displaying both universality, in the form of a concerted global response, and diversity, in terms of addressing specific impacts, actors, and opportunities.
Traditional practices are central to sustainability strategies, fostering partnerships that prioritize sustainable pathways to cultural exchange with the world and showcasing innovative design strategies that enhance resilience in all aspects of humanity, including wisdom for climate actions. It is important to mention that developing a sustainable culture is critical, not only for ensuring the wellbeing of all but also for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Looking Ahead to Osaka 2025:
This exhibition also serves as a prelude to Indonesia's participation in the upcoming Osaka World Expo 2025. The Expo provides an exciting platform to share Indonesia's rich culture and innovative spirit with a global audience. The theme of Indonesia's pavilion, "Thriving in Harmony: Nature, Culture, Future", resonates with the Expo's focus on building a better future for all.
We invite you to experience a glimpse of Indonesia's vibrant culture at the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum and look forward to welcoming you to Osaka in 2025!
