The Tokyo Fuji Art Museum has been gathering literary materials for exhibition planning and art history research since its inception. The museum actively collects materials related to its diverse collection of artworks and materials associated with exhibition planning, such as the Cultural Exchange Exhibitions. In particular, we are committed to obtaining catalogues of exhibitions held in various regions, academic publications and published materials related to the history of photography. Our collection of noteworthy materials—which include rare books, classic books and old documents, as well as the collection of books donated by art historians Germain Bazin and Ono Yoshiki—contribute significantly to the study of Western art history.
In gathering works for our collection over the years, we have also amassed related archival materials such as letters, diaries, manuscripts, notebooks, photographic and video records, business documents of groups and organizations, contracts and inventories of artworks linked to the museum’s collection. A number of these materials were obtained directly from the artists or art historians, making them invaluable for research.
These documents and archival materials are organized and researched by the museum to further advance a wide range of activities and initiatives.
