On August 24, in commemoration of the “Exhibitions of Embassies, Part II: Pathways to Cultural Exchange with the World” displaying works of art on loan from the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum organized a special performance of the Indonesian bamboo tube instrument angklung. The opening remarks were delivered by Mrs. Nuning Wahyuniati, wife of His Excellency Heri Akhmadi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Japan.
In the event’s first half, children of Indonesian families living in Japan performed songs on the angklung, which was followed by some 30 members of the audience invited to play the instrument for themselves. In the second half, catering to Japanese children on summer vacation, both performers and audience played native Indonesian games and held a storytelling session.
