Ogaki Books president visits TFAM
On October 6, Morihiro Ogaki, president and representative director of Ogaki Books, paid a courtesy call on the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum. Welcomed by TFAM Director Akira Gokita and TFAM Executive Director Akira Kaneko, the Ogaki Books chief executive viewed the “Ancient Egypt—The Creation of the World” and “From the Renaissance to the 20th Century—500 Years of Western Paintings” exhibitions, as well as the photographic exhibition, “Through the Looking Lens: Ancient Ruins of the World.”
October 6, 2021Toppan president visits TFAM
On September 29, Toppan Inc. President and Representative Director Hideharu Maro visited the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum and viewed the “Ancient Egypt—The Creation of the World” exhibition. He was greeted by TFAM Supervising General Manager Hiroaki Ohashi.
The exhibition, which opened on September 19 and will run until December 5, features some 130 works selected with meticulous care from the superlative collection of the Egyptian Museum of Berlin, which belongs to the famed Neues Museum on Berlin’s Museum Island.
September 29, 2021Mizuno Corp. president visits museum
On September 22, Akito Mizuno, president of the sportswear and sports equipment giant Mizuno Corporation, paid a courtesy call on the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum. He was greeted by TFAM Director Akira Gokita and Executive Director Akira Kaneko and viewed the “Ancient Egypt—The Creation of the World” and “From the Renaissance to the 20th Century—500 Years of Western Paintings” exhibitions.
September 22, 2021Museum holds online art appreciation workshop for Kansai kids
On September 9 and 10, the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum conducted an online workshop for fourth-grade students of Kansai Soka Elementary School in Osaka prefecture. Using tablet PCs either at home or at school, the children viewed two works of art—“A Roman Studio” by the British painter Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836-1912) and “The Age of Bronze” sculpted by Auguste Rodin (1840-1917)—from the museum’s prized collection.
September 20, 2021Students from Hachioji elementary school visit museum
On September 1, sixth-year students from the Hachioji Daisan Elementary School took part in an art appreciation tour of the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum. Splitting in groups, the students viewed the “From the Renaissance to the 20th Century—500 Years of Western Paintings” exhibition. As part of their free research project, the participants were asked to find their favorite work and explain why they chose it.
September 16, 2021Museum announces shortened viewing hours for “Ancient Egypt” exhibition
Due to the Japanese government’s declaration of national emergency in response to the ongoing pandemic, the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum has temporarily altered viewing hours for the exhibition, “Ancient Egypt—The Creation of the World.” The exhibition will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with admission closing at 3:30 p.m. The museum is closed on Mondays and if a national holiday falls on a Monday, then the following day will be closed.
The “Ancient Egypt—The Creation of the World” exhibition features some 130 works selected with meticulous care from the superlative collection of the Egyptian Museum of Berlin, which belongs to the famed Neues Museum on Berlin’s Museum Island. By viewing these artifacts and aided by the use of short animated films, viewers are invited to delve into the many profound allegories embraced by one of the oldest civilizations in the world.
September 8, 2021Museum holds workshop for aspiring curators
On August 20, the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum conducted a workshop in which 13 students majoring in museum curatorship programs at 11 universities in Japan taking part. Included in the six-day agenda for the day was lectures by TFAM curators and discussions on exhibition planning and artwork management as well as presentations on exhibition planning by the participants.
September 8, 2021Museum celebrates 9 millionth visitor
On August 22, the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum welcomed its nine millionth visitor. On hand to welcome the honored guest, Kumiko Kishi, was TFAM Trustee Yumiko Sugimoto. The museum opened its doors to the public on November 3, 1983, established with the express purpose of sharing the world’s finest works of art from around the world with people not only in Japan but worldwide. TFAM has engaged in cultural exchanges with numerous institutions abroad, along with various outreach initiatives locally and globally.
August 22, 2021Students from Tokyo Junshin Girls’ school visit museum
On July 9, third-year students from Tokyo Junshin Girls’ Junior and Senior High School took part in an art appreciation tour of the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum. Split up in five groups, the junior high students viewed the “From the Renaissance to the 20th Century—500 Years of Western Paintings” exhibition, with students from nearby Soka University Faculty of Education serving as docents.
July 27, 2021Museum presents free admission tickets for Hachioji students to Cats exhibition
On July 20, Tokyo Fuji Art Museum donated admission tickets to the exhibition, “Mitsuaki Iwago’s World ‘Cats’ Travelogue,” to every elementary and junior high school student in the city of Hachioji. On behalf of the museum, TFAM Executive Director Akira Kaneko presented the free tickets to Hachioji Municipality Superintendent of Education Hideshio Yasuma. The exhibition features 209 works of felines from around the world by internationally renowned wildlife photographer Mitsuaki Iwago.
