OVERVIEW

These are titles even the most neophyte fan of Japanese manga and anime should know—“Mighty Atom,” “The Jungle Emperor,” “Black Jack”—and the creative genius behind them: Osamu Tezuka (1928-89). Through “Upon Wings of Dreams,” the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum pays homage to Tezuka and his fascinating universe, presenting a visual biography of his life and works—including the hit manga “Buddha”—featured in Kibou-no-Tomo, Shonen-World and Comics-Tom (all released by TFAM affiliate Ushio Publishing Co., Ltd.). The exhibition not only displays hand-drawn cels for Tezuka’s animations but also his storyboards, even the screenplays he wrote in his own hand. From the woven wonders of the past to the promise and perils of the future, from the verdant Earth to the vastness of the cosmos, this exhibition is entertainment at its purest to be enjoyed by visitors of all ages.
