“Eternal Treasures of Japan—Art of the Samurai” from the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum collection was held in commemoration of the centennial of Japanese immigration to Brazil. The special exhibition featured 120 masterpieces introducing the spirit and aestheticism of the samurai warrior caste from the Heian to the Edo periods, from paintings and ukiyoe woodblock prints to lacquer ware, calligraphy, porcelain and ceramics, and feudal arms and armor. The exhibition’s main focus was on the Edo period, during which the Tokugawa shogunate ensured domestic peace and stability for over two centuries, allowing for a unique culture to flourish.
