OVERVIEW
Held at the National Museum of Chile in Santiago to commemorate the centennial of Chile-Japan relations, “Eternal Treasures of Japan” featured 74 paintings, ukiyoe woodblock prints, ceramics and porcelain, lacquer ware, feudal arms and armor, and calligraphy from the Momoyama period to modernity. Some 500 dignitaries, including former President of Chile, Patricio Aylwin Azocar, attended the opening ceremony in September 1997, while Prince and Princess Hitachi, who were visiting Chile at the time, viewed the exhibition. “Eternal Treasures of Japan” drew outstanding reviews in both Chile and other countries for its artistic value and for promoting international goodwill.
