EXHIBITION OVERVIEW

Tokyo Fuji Art Museum’s “Treasures of Japanese Art” opened at Havana’s Museum of Decorative Arts (National Museum of Cuba), one of the first ever exhibitions of its kind held in the Caribbean. The exhibition consisted of a total of 81 displays, including paintings, ukiyoe woodblock prints, lacquer ware, masks, feudal arms and armor from the Momoyama Period to modernity. On the closing day, Fidel Castro, President of Council of State of Cuba who also served as the honorary chair of the exhibition organizing committee, came to view the display of Japanese art, which drew outstanding reviews in Cuba.
