Museum opens homage exhibition for avant-garde photographer Andre Kertész

The Tokyo Fuji Art Museum has opened the second cycle of the exhibition, “Icon of Avant-garde Photography: A Homage to Andre Kertész on the 40th Anniversary of His Passing.” As with famed photographer Robert Capa, French-American photographer Andre Kertész (1894-1984) was born in Hungary who emerged among the premier figures of the 20th century in the medium of photography. The older Kertész took Capa under his wing, teaching the tradecraft to and finding work for the latter. Following Capa’s death, Kertész befriended his brother Cornel, with the two visiting Japan together. The exhibition features 165 works by Kertész from TFAM’s photography collection, including prized vintage and modern prints as well as published collections of his works.
