On January 18, Charles Saumarez Smith, Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Academy of Arts in London visited the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum. An acclaimed British cultural historian, Mr. Smith viewed “From TFAM’s Collection: One of Japan’s Largest-Ever Exhibitions of Western Paintings,” which features Turner’s Helvoetluys—the City of Utrecht, 64, Going to Sea. The CEO’s “purpose was to see, and see if we might be able to borrow” the work, he wrote in his blog.
