Attendance at Palace Museum in Beijing Exhibit Surpasses 1 Million

The number of visitors attending TFAM’s “The Palace of Heaven on Earth: Works from the Palace Museum in Beijing” exhibition recently surpassed the one million-mark. Previously held at venues in Hokkaido, Hyogo, Fukuoka, Aichi, Ehime, Tokyo and Miyazaki prefectures, the one millionth visitor attended the exhibition held at Niigata and received a commemorative gift from the prefecture’s Chinese Consulate.

Chinese Ambassador to Japan Cheng Yonghua was the guest of honor attending the exhibition’s opening ceremony held at TFAM on March 28.

“The Palace of Heaven on Earth,” which opened in Japan in July 2011, centers on the lives of women in the historic imperial residence in Beijing over a period spanning five centuries, and includes some 200 works, 19 of which are among China’s national treasures. It is the second Palace Museum exhibition organized by TFAM after “Treasures of the Palace Museum” held in Tokyo in 1995-96, which featured 250 works created by master artists and artisans of China over four millennia.
