On June 29, the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum opened “The Uffizi Virtual Museum,”a special exhibition featuring ten digitally reproduced masterpieces, including Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus”, from the world-renowned Uffizi Gallery. The ten works can be viewed in two formats: life-sized printouts using highly advanced ink-jet techniques that are so sophisticated that only trained experts can tell the difference between them and the originals; or in digitized format displayed on 47-inch touchscreen displays that can be “blown up” to reveal the finest details. The exhibition, a special summer vacation event for children and adults, will conclude on September 23.
