Palace Museum in Beijing Names TFAM Founder Honorary researcher of the Chinese museum

On May 18, the Palace Museum in Beijing announced that it was appointing Daisaku Ikeda, founder of Tokyo Fuji Art Museum, honorary researcher of the Chinese museum. The appointment was made in recognition of Mr. Ikeda’s longstanding service in promoting Sino-Japanese friendship and cultural exchange. The announcement was made during the showing of “The Palace of Heaven on Earth: Works from the Palace Museum in Beijing” at the Miyazaki Prefectural Art Museum in Miyazaki, Japan.

“The Palace of Heaven on Earth”, which opened in Japan in July 2011, centers on the lives of women in the historic imperial residence of Beijing over a period spanning five centuries, and includes some 200 works, 19 of which are among China’s national treasures. It is the second Palace Museum exhibition organized by TFAM after “Treasures of the Palace Museum” held in Tokyo in 1995-96, which featured 250 works created by master artists and artisans of China over four millennia.
