Attendance at Palace Museum in Beijing Exhibit Surpasses 800,000

The number of visitors attending “The Palace of Heaven on Earth: Works from the Palace Museum in Beijing” exhibition organized by the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum surpassed 800,000 recently. The 800,000th visitor was Keiko Kuwahara from Machida, Tokyo, who came with three friends to TFAM on April 26. On hand to greet Ms. Kuwahara and present her with a commemorative gift was Cheng Wang Wan, wife of Chinese Ambassador to Japan Cheng Yonghua.

Later, Mrs. Cheng delivered a special address at the museum on the challenges faced by women in China in the past and present and the contributions they have made over the ages. Ambassador Cheng was the guest of honor attending the exhibition’s opening ceremony held at TFAM on March 28.

“The Palace of Heaven on Earth”, which opened in Japan in July 2011, centers on the lives of women in the historic imperial residence in Beijing over a period spanning five centuries, and includes some 200 works, 19 of which are among China’s national treasures. It is the second Palace Museum exhibition organized by TFAM after “Treasures of the Palace Museum” held in Tokyo in 1995-96, which featured 250 works created by master artists and artisans of China over four millennia.
