Tokyo Fuji Art Museum’s “Masterpieces of Ukio-e: The World of the Paintings of Performers” was held under an initiative promoting cultural exchange between San Marino and Japan. It was the first exhibition specializing in ukiyoe woodblock prints to be shown in San Marino. Some 30 select prints from the TFAM collection were presented, including works by Hokusai, Hiroshige Utagawa, Masanobu Okumura, Toyouni Utagawa, Kunisada Utagawa and Eisen Keisai that represented the popular culture of the Edo period. In addition, rare ukiyoe from the Kamikata area, or modern-day Kyoto and Osaka, were also exhibited.
