The special exhibition, “The Ninth Wave,” was held in commemoration of the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum’s 20th anniversary, as well as the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg, where the Russian Museum is located. While centered on Russian marine painter Ivan Aivazovsky’s masterpiece, “The Ninth Wave,” which has been described as “the most beautiful painting in Russia,” the exhibition also featured four works by renowned 19th-century painters Shishkin, Repin and Yaroshenko. The TFAM exhibition was made possible through an extraordinary gesture of goodwill and generosity by the Russian Museum.
