Held in exchange in 1997 for the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum’s “Maki-e Lacquer and Oriental Ceramics” exhibition that was held at the Hofsburg Silberkammer Museum in Vienna, the special exhibition, “The Habsburg Dynasty’s Silver and Tableware,” featured 200 pieces from the Austrian museum’s Habsburg dynasty collection. The exhibition, which included furniture, glassware and ceramics, also featured a special display of portraits of Empress Elisabeth and Emperor Franz Joseph I, tantalizing Japanese viewers with the splendor and sophistication of the great House of Habsburg.
