Casa Buonarroti in Florence, Italy, an estate owned by Michelangelo, houses a great number of his works and other related items, and is recognized by the academic community as the center of Michelangelo studies. From this renowned collection, the special exhibition featured 60 select sketches, as well as paintings, sculptures, woodblock prints and craftwork, together with letters written in the master artist’s own hand, in three sections—Michelangelo and Casa Buonarroti; Michelangelo and Saint Peter’s Basilica; and Michelangelo and the Sistine Chapel—were shown in Japan for the very first time.
