Since his coronation in 1946 as Rama IX of the Chakri Dynasty, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej has been widely revered by his people and respected internationally. An aficionado of the arts, His Majesty has created an impressive personal portfolio that includes paintings, photographs and musical scores. Following “The Land of Gentle Smiles: Special Exhibition of Photographs by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand” in 1989, this special exhibition featured 21 of King Bhumibol’s own paintings, as well as paintings by members of the Royal Thai Family, the imperial seal, swords and stamps. The Bangkok National Museum also loaned traditional Thai works of art as a supplemental exhibition to fete the occasion.
