For some five centuries, a succession of 24 emperors ruled over China from the Forbidden City, the imperial palace and center of Chinese political power and influence from the Ming to Qing dynasties. Today, the Forbidden City has become home to one of the largest and most prestigious museums in the world: the Palace Museum, which boasts a collection of 1.8 million works. The special exhibition, “Treasures of the Palace Museum, Beijing,” featured approximately 250 works of art, from jewelry and costumes to furniture and fixtures, imperial artifacts and ornaments possessed by the dynastic rulers that collected over the four millennia of China’s rich history and heritage. The exhibition also included 120 national treasures, including paintings, calligraphy, bronze implements, ceramics, jade ware, lacquer crafts and cloisonné created by master artists and artisans in that time.
