Held in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum, the “Grand Napoleon Exhibition: Championed Causes and Accomplishments” was made possible through the generous cooperation of the French government, descendants of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) and Foundation Napoleon, as well as from museums of various countries and private collectors. While he will best be remembered for his role in the so-called Napoleonic Wars, Napoleon also served to promote the arts and culture, enhance and advance academic and educational institutions, while enacting effective economic and industrial policies, and promulgating the Napoleonic Code and social welfare initiatives. The innovative special exhibition presented some 400 works of art, jewelry and heirlooms that illustrate and showcase Napoleon’s lesser-known contributions.
