A principal event commemorating the 900th anniversary of the University of Bologna, which ranks among the oldest institutions of higher learning in the world, “Alma Mater Librorum: Special Exhibition Commemorating the 900th Anniversary of the Foundation of the University of Bologna” featured writings and documents collected in Europe over the ages. Of the some 200 works shown were classical literature by Virgil, Dante and Petrarca, as well as treatises on philosophy, the sciences and other disciplines by Aristotle, Euclid and Galileo. The special exhibition was made possible in large part due to the University of Bologna’s association with Soka University, an affiliate of Tokyo Fuji Art Museum that TFAM founder Daisaku Ikeda established in 1971.
