For the commemorative opening exhibition of the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum in 1973, the Louvre and seven premier art museums of France generously provided works from their exceptional collections at the urging of French art critic Rene Huyghe. “Masterpieces of French Art” featured a distinguished selection of France’s finest paintings from the 16th century, the dawn of the French Renaissance, to the 19th century, the birth of the Realism movement the Louvre contributed copperplate lithographs as well as the original copperplates.
