SUMMARY
This is the portrait of a man wearing earrings and a beret with a red feather. Besides the subdued complementary colors of green and red, the overall tone is dominated by a high-toned black. Coupled with the delicate facial outline, the man’s beards and childish mouth give this model a fragile impression, as well as courtly elegance. Clouet successfully represents the gloom-filled inner-self of this young knight with his sensibility filled with a flavor of French Renaissance and also his remarkable ability of representation.
