SUMMARY
In the 1970s, Warhol’s portraits underwent changes in qualitative terms. His earlier works were produced, inspired by movies, magazines, and photos provided from models. Starting in the mid-1970s, however, he came to produce portraits using the photos of celebrities that Warhol himself took at parties or other occasions, as if he were a portrait artist of fashionable social circles. Without making viewers aware of the silkscreen printing technique, these works exhibit natural expressive touches of brush that were not seen in his earlier works, giving such an impression that they were painted by the artist’s own hands.
