SUMMARY
A river running across the picture, a clump of green trees and blue sky in the distance, a fisherman standing alone on the riverside, and a flock of a dozen ducks are in harmony with a peaceful and tranquil impression of this painting. The painter’s eyes capture the landscape from a stable low perspective close to the ground. It is a typical riverscape painted by Daubigny. In 1857, he bought a small boat and moved into a house by a river near his hometown. In his later years, he travelled throughout France to seek various sceneries of rivers, often sketching the views of river surfaces on his boat. This landscape-oriented and low perspective picture reflects the painter’s approach for painting.
