SUMMARY

This masterpiece exerted to the fullest the beautiful effects of ink-and-wash style that can be acquired with lithographic ink—a rich representation that is created solely with a monotone gradation, and a warm brushstroke that brings out the soft texture of feathers. The Dove was created as an original drawing for a poster for the World Congress of Partisans for Peace in Paris, and its 50 copies were printed. This photoduplication was turned into a poster, and Picasso’s dove flew around the world as a symbol of peace. The artist kept doves in his studio and named his beloved daughter Paloma, which means “dove” in Spanish.
